Wheel Barrel Herb Gardening

One of the things that makes an herb garden so incredible is that you can put one almost anywhere. In addition, you can make it in just about any type of a container. Some people like to plant their favorite herbs in a formal grounded garden. However, one of the best and most enjoyable parts of having an herb garden is being able to play with it and make it a less formal part of the overall landscape design.

Have you ever thought of using an old wheel barrel as the planter for your herb garden? Most of the older, metal, wheel barrels are the perfect depth for your new herb garden. Before purchasing your herbs, figure out which are the ones that you would like to have growing in your wheel barrel garden. Many herbs will compliment each other with a variation of flavors, aroma, colors and space.

Drill a few drainage holes in the bottom of it with a drill. Line the bottom an inch or so with small to mid-sized gravel, add your favorite mix soil or compost and plant your herbs. Since they are still in a contained area, those that are especially prolific growers will not invade the rest of your yard or become over grown in a flowerbed.

Fresh, blooming herbs are a beautiful addition to any front, back or side yard gardens. Not only are they pleasing to the eyes, they are heaven when added fresh to your meals.
